The Science of MOTO-CAR Immunotherapy
When a patient develops cancer, the patient’s immune system has already failed to recognize and destroy tumor cells.
The Problem Treating Solid Tumors
- Solid tumors often create an environment that protects them from elimination by the immune system
- Macrophages, a type of immune cell, are prevalent in solid tumors and can contribute to a tumor’s immunosuppression and growth. These are called Tumor Associated Macrophages (TAMs)
- Paradoxically, macrophages, including TAMs, can help activate the immune system to destroy tumors if given the right inputs
- MOTO-CAR technology delivers the right inputs to turn a TAM into a cancer fighter
Thunder Biotech's Solution: MOTO-CAR
MOTO-CARs are armed with engineered receptors that bind to tumor antigens and activate TAMs to be pro-inflammatory M1 macrophages.
Chimeric Antigen Receptor cancer targets in Thunder Biotech’s pipeline: Mesothelin, which is expressed in many cancer types
MOTO-CARs convert tumor supporting TAM’s to a pro-inflammatory M1 cancer killing macrophage, which can recruit T cells to the tumor to eliminate it. In addition, the T-cell response will provide the body with immune memory preventing tumor recurrence.
MOTO-CAR lipid nanoparticles (LNP) were administered to Balb/c (immunocompetent) mice to determine their ability to control tumor growth.
